Microsoft recently announced that they will be updating MX records to Office 365. This will make it easier for email providers to find the correct email servers and deliver emails faster.
The office 365 dns records list is a command-line tool that can be used to update MX records. This allows for the proper routing of email messages from your domain to Office 365.
Permissions in Exchange Hybrid were configured in the preceding post. We’ll look at how to update the MX records to link to Office 365 this time. Mail will come first in Office 365, and Exchange Online Protection (EOP) will safeguard the company from spam, malware, and other email threats.
When we add a domain to Office 365, it informs us what the MX records for that domain should be. Incoming emails from the internet will be sent to Exchange Online using this method.
We didn’t change the MX records since this domain addition happens before the hybrid setup is set up. As a result, the Exchange on-premises organization’s regular incoming mail flow will be disrupted.
Let’s take that value and change the MX entries in the Public DNS zone now that we have the hybrid setup in place with its secure hybrid mail flow and want to cutover mail flow to Office 365.
In a hybrid deployment, you don’t have to repeat the Hybrid Configuration Wizard after moving the MX records to Office 365 or back to on-premises.

Locate the Office 365 MX record
Go to the Microsoft 365 site and log in. Select Domains from the drop-down menu under Settings. Select the newly added domain. Find the MX records by using the wizard.
It’s exoip-com.mail.protection.outlook.com in our case.
Next, we’ll go into the Public DNS and change the MX records to point to Office 365.
MX records should be changed to Office 365.
Log in to the registrar of domain names. That is where the domain is registered. Next, we’ll look for MX records. At this time, you may have one or more MX records.
Note: A few days before you intend to perform the MX record modification, reduce the TTL (Time To Live) on your MX records to a low number, such as 5 minutes or even 1 minute. It will guarantee that the MX records modification takes effect fast and that you may easily reverse the change if necessary.
It works with hybrid mail flow, whether the message is sent to an on-premises server or to Office 365 first. As a result, in our case, TTL and propagation delays are unimportant.
MX records should be removed.
MX records pointing to Exchange on-premises should be removed. The MX records are usually directed to an on-premises or cloud spam filter.

Check the MX records in Office 365.
It’s usually a good idea to double-check that the MX records have been correctly updated. Let’s have a look at a few instances.
MxToolbox is the first option.
MxToolbox MX Lookup is an amazing method to verify MX records. Fill in the domain name and then choose MX Lookup.
WhatsMyDNS is the second option.
WhatsMyDNS may be used to query the DNS record worldwide and check that the change is effective. Fill in the domain name and choose MX from the dropdown menu. Then, on the next screen, click Search.
Another option is to send an email to an external recipient from an Exchange Online mailbox. For instance, consider a test user with a Gmail account. Respond to the email after the user has received it.
We sent an email from Richard’s Exchange Online mailbox to a Gmail account in our example. We replied to Richard’s email from the Gmail account once the Gmail user got it.
That email should transport straight to Exchange Online and into the user inbox if the MX record update is successful. If the mailbox has not yet functioned, it will still reach the user mailbox, but it will first travel via the Exchange on-premises server, since that is where the MX records used to point.
To find out the route the email took, look at the message header and utilize the Microsoft Message Header Analyzer. Confirm that the email arrived to Exchange Online directly from Google.
Inbound internet email now passes via Office 365 first, thanks to the MX records update.
